GLYN EVANS OUR LIFE PRESIDENT IS 100 YEARS OLD!

The Rivertones Harmony Chorus held a special party at the Anchor Inn, Hillfarrance on Thursday evening, 26 February 2015, to celebrate the 100th birthday of Glyn Evans their founder and Life President.

Glyn, from Wellington – the oldest member of the British Association of Barbershop Singers (BABS), was joined by over 60 guests and was presented with a specially made birthday card, an engraved tumbler and a large personalised birthday cake to mark the occasion. The rich fruit cake was baked and decorated by Ken Marsh, a master baker and chorus member. The card, the cake top and special place mats on the carvery tables at the Anchor Inn were in a common theme and included some of the words written in Welsh, and were designed by Colin Harlow a long standing bass member of the Rivertones.

Peter Cookson (vice chairman of the British Association of Barbershop Singers), Peter Gover (Rivertones chorus director) and Peter Garrard (Rivertones chairman) attended the party and joined everyone in congratulating Glyn on reaching this momentous occasion.

The evening finished with some hearty singing and featured Glyn himself, singing in his baritone voice.

His birthday was actually on 24 February when he spent the day celebrating with family and when he also received congratulations from the Queen and the Mayor of Wellington live on Radio Somerset.

On the Saturday at the end of a long week, the Cottage Inn at Wellington put on their own celebration for Glyn with over 100 attending.
