46 men of all ages went along to the Taunton Academy from all parts of the county on Thursday 21 January for the start of this unique Learn To Sing course, which was first ‘devised’ by the Rivertones some years ago. It has since been adopted by the British Association of Barbershop Singers (BABS) and by numerous other acapella choruses and non-acapella choirs throughout the country.<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0 Learn To Sing attendees were issued with a comprehensive pack of course materials including a special Rivertones-designed and produced sheet music book.<\/span><\/p>\n

The course contains everything required for the education of singing including a teach track CD for the various voice parts, guidance on breath management, physical exercise, posture, vowels,\u00a0voice balance, resonance, tone\u00a0and volume and even includes rules of discipline.<\/span><\/p>\n

The men will learn to sing short song tags and some other longer songs, which they will perform with the Rivertones in 4-part harmony during the 8 weeks of the course. <\/span><\/p>\n

The evening was a unanimous success with most of the course attendees opted to enjoy after-course refreshments and stay to hear the Rivertones carry out a further half an hour of rehearsal at the end of the first evening.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I throughly enjoyed the evening and I especially tuned into the banter between the voice group which was great fun”<\/span><\/p>\n

I hope to continue with the Tenor group and intend to get stuck into the CD music on Sunday after grand children and family have left” <\/span><\/p>\n

“Loved it already looking forward to next week”<\/span><\/p>\n

“I just wanted to say many sincere thanks to one and all for the preparation, delivery and warm welcome last night. The session exceeded my expectations in all aspects. I have been humming all day!<\/span><\/p>\n

“I feel that I’m at the start of something good so thanks again”<\/span><\/p>\n

The course finishes in March with an invite to friends and families to a wine and cheese evening and an opportunity to hear the result of the new men singing with the Rivertones.<\/span><\/p>\n
